1.China National Rice Research Institute

CNRRI focuses on basic and applied researches with priority on solving significant scientific and technical problems in rice productiion. CNRRI has been emphasizing an rice genetic studies and genome research for improving rice yield, grain quality, pest resistance and stress tolerance, as well as on the conservation, and utilization of rice germplasm resources and on the development of environment friendly and cost efficiently rice cultivation technologies.
CNRRI also play an important role in coordination of priority rice research programs throughout the country, conducting national and international training and scientific & technical exchange, compiling & publishing academic journals and books on rice.

2. National Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement

The major interest of this lab in recent years is rice genomics and genetic improvement. The research areas include genome mapping, functional genomics, cloning of important genes, molecular and genetic basis of heterosis, germplasm evaluation and gene discovery, molecular breeding.

Scientists in the institute use both plant and animal models to address fundamental questions in life sciences, such as genetic control of growth and development, gene expression, signal transduction, structural and functional genomics, biotech and molecular breeding, bioinformatics and systems biology. As China owns the biggest agricultural market in the world, our researchers in the Institute have also made significant efforts on water saving agriculture and agronomic studies, focusing on the improvement of crop productivity and quality as well as bio-safety.

The main research interests of NKLPMG focus on plant functional genomics, plant molecular physiology and plant development, and plant biotechnology and genetic engineering. NKLPMG has established several technological platforms such as functional genomics, cell biology, proteomics and metabolomics. Moreover, it plays an important role in national scientific research programs. It has been undertaking key research projects from the National 863 Program, 973 Program, the National Plant Transgenic Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. Since 2006, NKLPMG has made great progress in the research of high-yield rice genes, plant signal conduction and plant mRNA, which have been published in the journals such as Nature Genetics, Nature Biotechnology, PNAS, Plant Cell, Development, Plant Journal, Plant Physiology, etc.
